The Acme Missionary Baptist Church Choir BIOGRAPHY

The Acme Missionary Baptist Church Choir “The Voices of Acme” will celebrate their 57th Year Anniversary in October, 2008 under the leadership of Pastor, Teacher- Dr. Bernard J. Sutton and his hand chosen Evangelist Janet Sutton, who has been the Director of the Music Ministry since 2004.

Over the years, the Voices of Acme have grown from 10 original members
to 50 plus and now currently has a membership of 40 active members. Since its inception, the choir has performed for many church audiences, concerts, musicals, plays, inaugurations and outdoor festivals.

The Voices of Acme’s leadership has changed over the years. Its original
president passed and leadership was passed on to Bro. Ralph Smith and
Minister of Music- Jean McAfee in 1973. The leadership also consisted of Kenny Williams, Bernice Baymon, and Bernette Sutton-Willis and others. They all contributed to taking the choir to another level through out the years.

The current minister of music, David Horne, joined the Voices of Acme after being introduced to Acme Church by Arthur Sutton in 1991. Under the guidance of Bro. Horne, Bro. Sutton and direction of Evangelist Sutton the choir continues to grow and receive overwhelming recognition throughout the city of Chicago and other states for their charismatic, discipline, unity, and anointed music and singing.

Some of the Choir’s most recent accomplishments consist of being named the “Best Church Choir in America” after entering the “How sweet the Sound” choir competition sponsored by Verizon Wireless. Since that time, the Voices of Acme opened the “Sound Tour” featuring Mary Mary and Marvin Sapp sponsored by the Chicago Defender. The choir opened the 25th Annual Chicago Gospel Music Festival with an audience of over 5,000 people; the choir sang the National Anthem at the Professional Women’s National Basketball game just to name a few. They were also scheduled to sing at the Bonnie Hunt show on channel 5 and the Chicago White Sox professional baseball team. The choir has performed on numerous television shows ie. ABC, channel 7, NBC, WGN, channel 9, WTTW channel 11, Fox news channel 32 and other cable channels. Our latest accomplishment was recording our 1st live CD and video recording in July, 2009. The choir was recently named “choir of the year” by “Rhythm of Gospel” in Pine Bluff, Arkansas.

God has truly blessed the choir’s ministry throughout the years. We continue to wait in expectation for what God has in store for this anointed choir in the days ahead.
